Kai ora koutou

My name is Sandra Elizabeth Burn generally known as Sandie. I am married to Stephen and have three amazing adult children and two very precious grandchildren.

I was lucky enough to grow up in some amazingly interesting places, Arthur Pass, where I was born, Aoraki/Mount Cook and Te Urewera to name a few.. Schooling was done though the Correspondence School followed with boarding school at Gisborne Girls High.

I moved with my family to Nelson 30 years ago and I worked as a cook at Nelson Hospital before moving to Community owned centre where I started and completed my training through New Zealand Childcare Assn. My career in ECE began as a reliever, then as fixed term teacher, before becoming a permanent full time teacher and now I am a Head Teacher. I have worked my way up the leadership pipeline gaining the skills and abilities along the way to ensure that as I move into higher level leadership I am well equipped to meet any and all challenges. Through my teaching journey I have become a Union member and advocate strongly for others to reap the benefits of being a part of NZEI just as I have.
